S.O.F.C.E.P.
Société Française des Chirurgiens Esthétiques Plasticiens
What is S.O.F.C.E.P. ?
Founded in 1987, the S.O.F.C.E.P. is a scientific society comprised of surgeons qualified in "Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery" by the National Council of the College of Physicians (180 Boulevard Haussmann - 75389 Paris Cedex 08 - Tel: +331 53 89 32 00 - Fax: +331 53 89 32 01, http://www.ordmed.org) and who practice principally in Aesthetic Surgery.
The rules for S.O.F.C.E.P. membership require its members to adhere to strict ethical duties towards the public. In addition, members of our Society make a commitment to ongoing training and regular exchange of knowledge. They will not advertise individually, either directly or through a commercial company.
S.O.F.C.E.P. Chart
Members S.O.F.C.E.P. make a commitment:
- To practice their art whilst fully respecting the human body;
- Continuously to seek to improve their knowledge for the benefit of their patients and fellow Plastic Surgeons;
- Not to associate professionally with those who do not practice their art on a scientific basis;
- To protect the public and the profession against unethical or incompetent doctors;
- To refrain from soliciting customers;
- To charge fees that are justified by the service provided.
A S.O.F.C.E.P. member makes a commitment:
- To act in the most professional manner providing proof of their membership of the Society;
- To be responsible and accountable for their professional and media activities;
- To be aware of the penalties they incur for breaching the charter, in particular by engaging in personal publicity, directly or indirectly or through a trading company involved or otherwise in the field of health, which is distributed beyond the average geographical area covered by a private hospital.
Persons authorized by the SOFCEP committee to communicate in order to inform the public objectively on the development of the specialism (ethics, training and scientific news) must do so with caution and in an ethical manner.
These people nonetheless communicate on behalf of the Society as a whole. Although their media appearances may be made in their own name, they should not in any way deviate from SOFCEP ethics as defined in its charter. They should especially avoid self publicity.
Other SOFCEP members may be referred to in the media by their initials, provided they cannot in any way be recognised as a result.
The committee reserves the right to take proceedings in respect of any breach of these rules, even if the said breach is committed by one of its spokesmen.
However, not all surgeons qualified in plastic surgery with the National Council of the College of Physicians, are necessarily SOFCEP members.
By contrast, all S.O.F.C.E.P members belong to the SoFCPRE but they practice predominantly in liberal Aesthetic Surgery.
By asking a S.O.F.C.E.P member to perform your plastic surgery you can:
- Be sure that the surgeon is certified, meaning he/she has had a rigorous training;
- Be sure that he (or she) engages in regular professional updating;
- Be certain that he/she follows the rules of practice set out in the SOFCEP Charter.
