Marionette lines
Cosmetic Surgery - Plastic Surgery - Aesthetic Medicine - Reconstructive Surgery
The marionette or bitterness lines are wrinkles forming at the corner
of the mouth (from both sides of the chin). Starting from the corners
of the mouth and going down the face, they extend the nasolabial folds.
Marionette lines give the face an appearance of sadness. Marionette
lines are nicknamed "puppet lines". The origin of marionette lines is
the contraction of skin muscles with age and some skin loosening.
The treatments available for dealing with marionette lines are numerous. The main ones being:
the use of fillers (biodegradable products such as collagen,
hyaluronic acid and polylactic acid; and non-biodegradable products;
such as silicone, acrylic hydrogel, polyacrylamide, etc. as) that will
mitigate these deformities.
injection of Botulinum toxin or Botox ®, that decreases muscle tone to
diminish wrinkles contributing to making bitterness lines less
visible.
These procedures in aesthetic medicine are delicate and require a lot
of rigour. They carry all the risks associated with any medical
procedure, even when performed even under the most favourable
conditions, that is to say by a competent plastic surgeon. Without
overstating the risk, a proportion of risks exist. Turning to a
qualified plastic surgeon can prevent complications or help to treat
them effectively.
