History of cosmetics
Cosmetics are preparations made to be put in contact with different parts of the skin of the human body, the epidermis, the hair systems and hair, teeth and mucosa. Their main objective is to clean, protect, and improve the condition of the human body and change its appearance. The cosmetics are products of hygiene and embellishment. Cosmetic treatment is all intended to beautify the body.
The cosmetics have a history as old as human beings. During prehistory, humans practiced body painting. The Egyptians had already discovered ointments, scented oils, makeup and toothpaste. Throughout history, cosmetics employees haven been dependent on the period concerned, and the methods and prime materials available. Recipes such as "Galen cold cream" are still used now. Some products could even be dangerous to health (a white lead foundation made with lead).
In the twentieth century, industrialization and discoveries are changing the face of cosmetology by creating synthetic fragrances, petroleum derivatives and synthetic tensioactives and emulsion stabilizers. These new ingredients and complex formulations created by researches typify the modern cosmetics.
