Aesthetic Medicine
In France, "aesthetic medicine" is not a specialisation listed by the National Council of the Order.
The official denomination of the specialty is "Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery." It thus encompasses all aspects of aesthetics.
Some doctors contend that it is not necessary to be a surgeon to practice aesthetic surgery. This would only be the case if A level + 14 years’ experience, in the case of some surgeons + 17 years experience, counted for less than A levels + 7 years…
TRAINING:
- It is after 7 years of studies, that the School of Medicine confers the degree of Doctor of Medicine (A-level +7).
- Five additional years are needed to become a specialist (A-level +12).
- To become a plastic surgeon the minimum necessary is A level + 14 years’ experience.
Only an officially registered University Hospital qualification confers the right to practise. University diplomas only count as additional training .
Beware of diplomas displayed in the waiting room of some doctors which confer a specialist qualification after only three days of training…

The purpose of injecting fillers is, using a simple and fast method, to correct some signs of aging or facial blemishes or to add volume where necessary. - Botulinum toxin injection for aesthetic purposes
The main objective of this treatment is to reduce fine lines and wrinkles when the face is at rest, not to prevent muscle contraction: therefore the result will be judged primarily on the appearance of wrinkles when the face is at rest. - Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion involves the elimination of the superficial layer of the skin, that is to say, the epidermis and superficial dermis. Its depth depends on the importance of problems that needs correcting, the area treated, the quality of the skin and the aim pursued. - Face peels
Peels utilize chemical or vegetal substances, depending on the power of their active ingredient, depending on their concentration or depending on the duration of the application, these will destroy the surface layer of the skin, that is to say all or part of the epidermis and superficial dermis, according to the aim pursued. - Face laser abrasion
The laser beam works by destroying, by using photo-vaporisation, the superficial layer of the skin, that is to say the epidermis and can go up to the superficial dermis, depending on the purpose: it is a controlled burn.
